Juan Santillan, Co-Founder and CEO, Vantage TV, @vantagetv: Juan is the CEO and co-founder of, a platform for virtual reality live events and fans. empowers artists and events to expand their reach using its technology to create virtual reality events with engaging social VR features for fans, turn key VR distribution and monetization tools. Juan brings over 8 years of experience creating software and content for immersive experiences in sports and entertainment prior to; including being the executive producer of immersive projects for Nascar, Wimbledon, PGA tour, The Black Eye Peas and AT&T events. Founded in 2015, has already recorded and created in-venue live VR broadcasts for more than 30 performances including such iconic music festivals as Outside Lands, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits providing fans with the best seat in the house.


Chris Ostoich, Co-Founder, LISNR: @chrisostoich, Chris Ostoich [like the bird with no R] is Co-Founder at LISNR, a new communication protocol that connects mobile with a speaker or microphone. Prior to LISNR, Ostoich was the Founder and Chief Innovation Officer for BlackbookHR. Ostoich founded BlackbookHR in 2008 and held the role of CEO until January of 2014. Ostoich attended the University of Cincinnati where he studied Communication, Public Relations and Music (Jazz Performance).


Refik Anadol, Director at Refik Anadol Studio, Lecturer at UCLA, @refikanadol, Refik Anadol is a media artist and director born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1985. Currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He is a lecturer in UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts.  He is working in the fields of site-specific public art with parametric data sculpture approach and live audio/visual performance with immersive installation approach, particularly his works explore the space among digital and physical entities by creating a hybrid relationship between architecture and media arts. He holds a master of fine arts degree from University of California, Los Angeles in Media Arts, master of fine arts degree from Istanbul Bilgi University in Visual Communication Design as well as bachelors of arts degree with summa cum laude in Photography and Video. Co-founder and Creative director at Antilop.  He has been given awards, residencies and has served as a guest lecturer. He is the recipient of a number of awards, prizes including Microsoft Research’s Best Vision Award, UCLA Art+Architecture Moss Award, The University of California Institute for Research in the Arts Award, SEGD Global Design Award and CODAvideo Award. His site-specific audio/visual performances have been seen in Walt Disney Concert Hall (USA), Hammer Museum (USA), International Digital Arts Biennial Montreal (Canada), Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), l’Usine | Genève (Switzerland), Arc De Triomf (Spain), Zollverein | SANAA’s School of Design Building (Germany), santralistanbul Contemporary Art Center (Turkey), Outdoor Vision Festival SantaFe New Mexico (USA), Istanbul Design Biennial (Turkey), Sydney City Art (Australia), Lichtrouten (Germany).


Bastiaan den Braber, Co-Founder and President/COO, SAMO VR; @basdenbarber, Bastiaan den Braber is a co-founder, and the President / COO of SAMO VR, a start-up that drives revenue in virtual reality by selling premium music experiences that is accessible across all 360° and virtual reality platforms.   SAMO VR is a music focused collective of elite professionals in production, distribution, and virtual reality technologies.  He previously worked for 15 years in management consulting at a global consulting firm across 4 continents, 10 industry sectors, and 50+ client organizations.  Bastiaan received his MSc in General Management and Specialization in Strategic Marketing from Nyenrode University, Netherlands. He received his BSc in Commercial Engineering and Management from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands.  When not working he enjoys African wildlife safari, wilderness hiking, and scuba diving. He lives in the city of Los Angeles, CA.


Mike D’Errico, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Media Studies, Pitzer College; Musician; Designer, @theatticbat, Michael D’Errico is a unique voice—a researcher, designer, and electronic musician. His realms of work are wide: hip-hop and electronic dance music, popular music and technology, video games and multimedia art, and sound studies. He received his PhD from the UCLA Department of Musicology and the Digital Humanities Graduate Certificate Program, and is currently working on a book project titled “Interface Aesthetics: Sound, Software, and the Ecology of Digital Audio Production,” which investigates the ways in which trends in software and digital instrument design influence the composition and production of electronic music. Other projects include ethnographies of hip-hop and electronic dance music communities in Los Angeles, sound design for the RomeLab virtual world project, and the construction of Notes—a music and multimedia annotation app to develop critical listening skills in music students. From Boston to Los Angeles, he has performed as a DJ, drummer, and electronic musician for various experimental music acts.

New Creation and Location Technologies

Technologies and live performance are changing the ways we can create as well as engage in performance.  We’ll discuss VR in live entertainment, ways that your smartphone may be listening to your environment, and live as the driving force of community and experience in music.  We also will explore changing collaborative technologies, what it means to create within expanded technology spheres, and how we are going way beyond multimedia as opportunities to create the next generations of music experiences.
