John Harran is senior vice president, business development, digital distribution & strategic partnerships for Turner. In this capacity, Harran oversees the multi-platform distribution of Turner’s portfolio of branded content, drives the strategy for TV Everywhere, as well as expands partnerships across OTT, SVOD, VOD, and AVOD and secures revenue opportunities with new and existing partners including Google, YouTube, Facebook, Apple, and Sony. Harran leads efforts with both current and new content distribution partners in the digital marketplace and explores advanced product opportunities within Turner’s global portfolio of brands. Additionally, Harran also oversees Turner Private Networks where he is responsible for creating additional revenue-generating opportunities for Turner's out-of-home content business. Harran is based in Atlanta and has a dual reporting role into Doug Shapiro, executive vice president & chief strategy officer for Turner and Jennifer Mirgorod, executive vice president of brand distribution for Turner Content Distribution (TCD).   Previously, Harran was vice president of business development & multi-platform distribution, where he focused on the development of TV Everywhere, VOD, and multi-platform distribution strategies with cable, satellite and telco providers, negotiated content deals with pay-TV providers and crafted digital partnerships with consumer electronic manufactures and emerging media companies. A seasoned TV distribution and digital media veteran, Harran worked at Starz Encore as division vice president and led the start up of their Los Angeles new media division; at The Weather Channel, where he launched the distribution efforts across Telco and satellite platforms; at N2 Broadband, where he focused on the development of VOD software platforms; and at Amplified Holdings during the start up and acquisition phase of a business-to-business ecommerce and digital music distribution provider. Harran was most recently recognized by Broadcasting & Cable as one of their 2016 Digital All-Stars and by Cablefax as one of the Most Innovative People in Multiscreen. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in business management from Skidmore College.

 

Scott Barton is Senior Vice President of Branded Digital Content and Products for Starz. Barton is responsible for leading the programming and product vision at Starz for all on demand, online, digital and consumer-facing video products and platforms. Barton will also identify and develop programming strategies that leverage the Starz catalog across new and emerging platforms. Previously serving as Vice President for Digital and On Demand Programming, Barton oversaw the programming, product development, and promotion of Starz’ advanced services and digital products, including Starz.com, on demand, STARZ PLAY, and other TV Everywhere services. Barton plays a strategic role in the future development and implementation of new products and business opportunities across emerging platforms. Prior to that, Barton served as Executive Director, Advanced Services product development for the STARZ PLAY and Vongo broadband services.  Including user experience, programming promotion, personalized content discovery, registration purchase flow, and deployment with affiliates. Prior to that, Barton was Director, Subscription Video-On-Demand during the period when STARZ ON DEMAND was initially sold in and deployed to key Starz distributors. Prior to joining Starz in 2002, Barton served as Director, National Accounts for On Command, the leading provider of in-room interactive entertainment, Internet services, business information and guest services for the lodging industry and its guests. While at On Command, Barton helped negotiate multi-year partnership agreements and contractual arrangements for all Marriott full service and limited lodging brands, the Adam’s Mark Hotel chain, and others. Barton holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, Davis.

 

Michael Bishara, SVP & GM, OTT & Digital Syndication, Discovery Communications: As SVP & General Manager, OTT & Digital Syndication, Michael Bishara oversees Discovery Communications’ OTT initiatives as well as the digital businesses for VOD, Download to Own, Home Video and Short-Form Video Syndication, growing revenue across the company’s digital portfolio. Previously, Bishara served as Senior Vice President, Digital Products & GM, OTT and TV Everywhere for Synacor where he oversaw the company’s portfolio of award-winning digital products, including product development and the day-to-day operations of Synacor’s white-label video and identity management cloud platform. Bishara also previously served as Founder and Managing Member of Sentient Digital Consulting Group, a digital media consulting practice focused on the development of TVE product strategies for the HBO/Disney brands in Canada as well supporting the development and launch of HBO GO Canada. Earlier in his career, he spent over a decade at HBO where he held several roles, including Senior Vice President, HBO GO Digital Group overseeing HBO’s domestic broadband business, products and subscription strategy. Bishara has a B.A. in Sociology and an MBA in Marketing Management from State University of New York at Buffalo. He is based in Discovery’s New York office.

 

Scott L Brown, SVP Global Engineering & Strategic Relations, The Nielsen Company: Scott L. Brown serves as Senior Vice President, Global Communications, Client Insights & Strategic Relations for Nielsen. In this role, Scott is a frequent speaker and sought after visionary for impending changes to the media landscape, the impact of new technology, and for the path of new advertising models. Scott is responsible for client insights and communications, strategic business relationships, and works with media strategy and digital platform development for the company. Scott focuses much of his time on establishing and managing business relationships with advanced technology and new media companies. He is the key company spokesperson for evolving television technologies, advanced metering systems, and new technology development. Scott provides the internal and external company vision and leadership for the new world of digital convergence, connected TV technology, and multi platform measurement, etc. Scott, is a veteran of Nielsen, with roots going back to Advanced Software Systems Design, progressing into Senior Operations Management, and then into his current position with Nielsen. Scott's expertise is grounded in technology, the implications for Nielsen measurement, coupled with a deep client following on what is relevant in the media world. Scott is frequently asked to forecast the future for major advertisers, and media companies. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree from Illinois State University.

 

Chris McCown serves as vice president of video production management for Scripps Networks Interactive. In his current role, he is responsible for evolving the video capabilities and offerings for Scripps Networks’ lifestyle media brands -- HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel and Great American Country. McCown also works hand-in-hand with internal partners in research, editorial/programming, engineering, operations, project management, sales, marketing and others to continually evaluate and evolve Scripps Networks’ video platforms and product offerings. He additionally focuses on growing the company’s digital business by increasing revenue, improving customer experience and developing operational efficiencies. McCown was previously director of CNBC’s digital products. In this role, he lead CNBC’s TV Everywhere initiatives, oversaw data driven decisions, along with managing relationships with Apple, Google and much more. He additional held positions with WeatherBug, NBC Studios, CNBC.com, NBC Inc., NBC10 and NBC6, giving him over 18 years of experience in creating and managing web, mobile and interactive TV products for major television networks, cable business news and interactive weather brands. It additionally gave him extensive experience in integrating live TV, on-demand video, real-time data, and breaking news into large-scale consumer websites and apps used by millions of customers. He is a graduate of Evangel University in Missouri and now lives in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his wife and two children.

 

Rob Klippel is Senior Vice President of Advanced Advertising Products and Strategy at Spectrum Reach, the advertising and media division of Charter Communications. In this role, Mr. Klippel is responsible for the company’s data platforms and insights strategy and creating the next generation of advanced advertising platforms including digital, set-top video on demand and addressable products. Mr. Klippel joined Spectrum Reach after 12 years with Comcast Spotlight, most recently as Vice President of Advanced Platforms. At Comcast, he oversaw the enablement of dynamic ad insertion on video on demand and linear addressable platforms. Mr. Klippel held multiple other leadership positions at Comcast including Vice President of New Products and Vice President of Engineering and Operations. Prior to Comcast, Mr. Klippel served as Vice President of Customer Care Operations at Adelphia Communications and Vice President of Operations at both Relera and Verio. Earlier in his career, he spent 10 years in management consulting roles at Deloitte and Accenture. Mr. Klippel earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering – industrial engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Business Administration in marketing and operations from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

 

Mike Vorhaus, President, Magid Advisors: Founded the Magid Internet and New Media research and consultation practice in 1995, with AOL and Excite as his first two clients. Mike’s team has completed over 2,500 engagements with over 100 Internet clients. Mike began the Magid Gaming Practice in 2001 with EA and Sony Online as his first two clients. The Magid Game Practice now works with most of the major game publishers. Mike provides research and consulting services to a number of major traditional media companies in regard to their new media initiatives, as well as consulting a number of leading Internet and gaming companies. He has also provided advice to venture capital and private equity firms in regard to investments in the media space. Mike has been involved in strategic and tactical consulting, including the launch of new services and programming, as well as development and implementation of online and offline marketing programs. Mike has also been extensively involved in video and PC gaming strategies for a number of our companies, as well as the development of game concepts. Mike has consulted on a number of film projects such as You’ve Got Mail and The Matrix. He holds a B.S. in psychology and sociology from Wesleyan University and has worked as a fundraiser and transfer of technology officer at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California. Mike also worked for the U.S. House of Representatives, The U.S. Senate, and for two Administrations in the White House.
